Adventures in New-Fallen Snow
New-fallen snow provides many adventures and scenic photo opportunities for the landscape photographer along the shore of Lake Superior. This was the first time I strapped on the ice-cleats this winter!
Stoney Point Sunrise
A late autumn sunrise in a mini-cove at Stoney Point on the North Shore of Lake Superior
A long exposure of crashing waves and resulting sea smoke on the Harbor Light breakwater at Two Harbors
Stone Arch Bridge over Stewart Creek Rapids
There are many streams/creeks/rivers flowing out of the highlands and down to Lake Superior and St Louis Bay in Duluth. Many flow under Skyline Parkway offering access to trails alongside them and some flow beneath scenic bridges. These flowing rivers also are a great subject in late autumn for outdoor photography.
Richard Bong Bridge
A lovely calm autumn evening yielded this view of the Richard Bong Bridge and St Louis Bay from the Superior Hiking Trail
Rainy Autumn Day at Jay Cooke
Plenty of rain has soaked the northland this autumn. Lake Superior's water level is on the rise rather than on the decline which is typical of this time of year. This image shows a break in the rain with low clouds over peak autumn color in the St Louis River Valley in Jay Cooke State Park. (my apologies, the date is actually Oct 9, 2018)
After a dry August, September rainfall has increased the flow of area streams and brought fog with it, as evident here at Chester Creek Falls.
Aurora Borealis in Northern Minnesota
Clouds cleared, winds calmed, and the Northern Lights shown brightly on Boulder Lake north of Duluth
Twilight Meets Dawn
The glow of dawn on the horizon mixes with the blues of twilight on the North Shore near Two Harbors
Bright Beams on a Drizzly Morning
Floodlights on the Lift Bridge created glowing beams of light shining through the low cloud deck and drizzle on Canal Park Drive
I think of myself as an outdoors photographer and am forever drawn to the wild and rugged beauty of the Arrowhead. I lived in the Twin Cities for 37 years and recently my wife and I moved to Duluth.
There are a lot of excellent photographers out there, so I try to explore and find places or views that are out of the ordinary.
