Circle The Moon

If you live in Minnesota, almost everyone has heard of or seen sun dogs, but not everyone has seen or even heard of moon dogs. Like sun dogs, moon dogs usually only appear when it is very cold and I believe very high humidity helps to form crystals in the air that form the "dogs" and the circle. Moon dogs are pretty rare, and I think they only appear when there is a full moon, so that alone reduces a person's chance of seeing them. The "dogs" start to form, then the circle forms, then the moon gets diamond shaped when the vertical and horizontal lines form. If you have never witnessed this, it is quite a sight to see! They are pretty unpredictable as to when they are going to form and the duration of them. Dress warm!! For better viewing, click on the photo to get a dark screen.
