An All Season Toast To Friends Met On CM
The best things in life are unexpected, because there were no expectations.
The hand pouring me a cup of Jasmine Tea at the new Anoka Mad Hatter Tea Shop is that of a friend met on CM. She drove out and picked me up as I was recovering from surgery that chilly March day.(Aug. date wrong-this is a repost). I have a picture of her beautiful, laughing face. I was forbidden to post it under pain of dire consequences. I obeyed. Later that evening, I found an e-mail from her. Enclosed was a picture she had taken, unbeknownst, of me. I was wearing a black wool pantsuit, with a (steel yourselves) sleeveless sweater under the jacket bearing orange, yellow, and black horizontal stripes. To say it was unattractive is to seriously understate. With it came a sweet, loving, breezy little notation that, should I reneg on my promise, she wouldd be posting hers. A response from me yelling ABORT MISSION was received with many smiley faces.
Let's take a cup of kindness now....for Auld Lang Syne.
Overnight Baked French Toast
Here's the deal. I found the recipe in the reception room at a doctor's office. I was encouraged to take any recipe and use it. This looked delicious. The 500 degree baking temp. seemed a tad high. I therefore took it down to 450. After combining the ingredients, I covered the trays and left them in the fridge overnight. After 10 minutes of baking, the house smelled as though it were on fire. When I opened the oven, I was pleased to discover the smoke detector was working perfectly. One tray was burned black. Three pieces in the other tray looked edible. I arranged them as instructed and poured an ample portion of Hamel Pure Maple Syrup, made in Hamel, MN. The first bite was a strong reminder. I don't like French Toast.
Black Locust-The Tree America Was Built On
This is a portion of our Black Locust's trunk. She has dropped seedlings over the years, which the neighbors kindly allowed to grow. She now has four, maybe five, babies!
As the strongest timber in North America, black locust helped build Jamestown and hardened the navy that decided the War of 1812, yet today few Americans have heard of it. The nation's taste in ornamental trees has changed fairly dramatically since the first street plantings were made in Williamsburg, Virginia, in the 1730s.

Is That All There Is?
The crumb covered cutting board held two perfect take and bake baguettes, fresh from the oven. The aroma of fresh bread baking filled the house. The apparent fruit, muffins and blackberry jam are a card given to my daughter in law for acing her second to last hurdle toward getting her Nurse Practitioner degree. I thought it might make a nice picture. I ambled off to locate my camera. By the time I returned, the dipping bowls were washed and put away. The bread was also put away, as in having been fallen upon by ravening wolves and devoured. And so it goes.....
Gonna Be A Bright, Bright Sunshiny Day
Flowers are those little colorful beacons of the sun from which we get sunshine when dark, somber skies blanket our thoughts. ~Dodinsky
As I prepare for the greatest journey of all, I wish you joy.
FYI, I have shut down my Face Book account. I've enjoyed seeing all the pictures posted. I will now stay in touch with close friends and relatives by phone.
